Cage size:
Hatchlings & sub-adults – Length 900mm, Depth 450mm, Hight 450mm.
Adults – Length 1200, Depth 500mm, Hight 500mm (or larger)
Heating:
Heating pads or cables are not necessary as Bearded dragons like basking in heat from above. Heating rocks must NOT be used as the dragon cannot sense heat from below and can burn itself.
A basking Spotlight for temperatures of between 32˚C and 40˚C is ideal for heat. Experiment with different wattages to get the ideal temperature. Use a timer switch to allow for 12 hours light per day, no light is necessary at night.
Spotlights should be placed on one side of the cage so as to allow the Bearded dragon move away from the heat to cool down.
5% - 10% UV fluorescent tubes can be used for UV light, these should be set +-30cm above the basking spot. Fluorescent tubes should be replaced at least every 12 months.
Substrate:
Reptile carpet is ideal. Cleaned sand is used as well but should be placed in a sand-box to prevent it from mixing into the food bowl and being swallowed by the Bearded dragon.
